Blister Packs

Non adherence to medication can cause adverse health complications and costs Canadian health care system billions of dollars every year.

Blister Packs also known as Compliance packs provide medication in neat little pockets that are laid out in a way that is easy to understand. Patients with multiple medications taken at various times a day can have a difficult time managing it. Weekly blister packs simplify this. Generally, the patients daily medications are separated into the time of day such as breakfast, lunch, dinner and bedtime.

Weekly blister packs are not for everyone, but can play a key role in mitigating costs in our healthcare system when prescribed to certain patients. The benefits of blister packaging are:

  • very easy to use
  • provide peace of mind to patients
  • promote aging in place
  • helps keep track of whether meds have been taken
  • provide caregivers with the ability to see at a glance if medications have been taken
  • reduce the likelihood of admittance or readmittance to hospital

In particular patients that have been released from the hospital are often in a healing and fragile condition and proper adherence can help prevent re-admissions.

Certain patients may benefit from Smart Blister Packaging.  In these state of the art dispensing packs, microchip technology is embedded into the blister pack which sends a message of medication non-adherence to the patient and/or designated caregiver.
